Rice Race Prep was at the American Road Race of Champions on Nov3-5 at Road Atlanta in Georgia.
RRP associate, Cliff Johnson, finished 2nd in Saturday's race and Joel Haas finished 2nd in Sunday's race. Joel, having missed Thursday through Saturday, was experiencing his first dry laps in the race shown in this video, taken from the car of RRP principal, Greg Rice.
Rice Race Prep is open for new business in 2018. 2017 was a transitional year as we diversified and worked with new teams and drivers, but we would really like to get back to our specialty. We will have up to 3 "arrive n drive" seats available for FRP F1600. We would like to add programs for SCCA racing in the winter season, and add full-time FRP customers in F1600 or F2000. We have a legacy of data, video, and expertise, so that we can provide a complete and focused race effort to racers that want to go racing seriously. Although it seems like long ago, please recall that RRP did win the 2016 F2000 Masters and Overall Championships in dominant fashion. We are always open to interesting consulting or off-season rebuild projects. We also have the capacity to prepare customer F4 or F3 cars. While there is lots of interest, as there is this time of year, we have no confirmed programs in place at this time. Please inquire to see how we can best help you upgrade your program.
Simon Sikes will make his FRP F1600 Championship debut with Rice Race Prep at New Jersey Motorsports Park on Oct 7-8.
From Athens, Georgia, the 16 year old Sikes, is the 2017 Skip Barber Winter Series Champion and one of ten candidates for the 2017 Team USA Scholarship process. Sikes brings support from the karting shirt company Group 6 to his blue Mygale. Also supporting the Rice Race Prep team, long time partner, is Fox40, manufacturer of whistles and fine sporting goods.
The FRP F1600 Championship finale will consist of testing, practice, and qualifying, before 3 races which will determine the Overall and Masters Champions. F2000, Formula Atlantic, and TransAm will also have races at the event.
There is one race event left in the 2017 FRP F1600 Championship. NJMP on Oct 6-8. There will be three hours of track time including three 30 min races. Rice Race Prep have two race-winning cars available for this event with complete support. We are offering a "Boardwalk Special" for any 2017 MRTI or F4 driver who would like to sample F1600 racing at a FRP event. Essentially, a half price package will be available to qualified racers. The driver will still be responsible for all damages. If, a car is still available after the completion of the SCCA Runoffs, the boardwalk special will extend to 2017 National Champions in the Formula classes, and then to podium finishers. Update: I have one seat spoken for. 3 National Champions have conflicts. Offer now extended to podium finishers and beyond. Need to confirm the 2nd driver soon as leaving Wednesday. Please forward to potential candidates. Contact Greg Rice at RiceRacePrep@gmail.com

There will be three hours of track time including three 30 min races. The crowds will be similar or larger to those when running beginning or end of day at so-called high profile events in other series (see pic above).

Joel Haas scored two more Masters wins on Sunday Aug 26th at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia. Driving his Parametric Solutions sponsored Piper, Haas led much of both Sunday races after a strong second in Saturday's race.
The RRP guest driver at Summit Point was team owner Greg Rice who drove the Fox40 Reynard to three 4th place finishes in Masters class, and ran as high as 2nd in Race 3. The Reynard is a team project to demonstrate that strong preparation and engineering can make much older cars competitive in F1600 racing. The 1983 model Reynard is 30 years older than most of the cars and almost three times older than some of the F1600 series drivers.
Rice Race Prep is open to new business in 2018. Two former race-winning cars have been added to the stable of cars, and full "Arrive N Drive" programs will be available for young racers seeking overall wins or more mature racers looking for Master's success. Stay tuned for an announcement at Indianapolis Speedway at the SCCA Runoffs at the end of September. RRP will have a strong presence there as Joel Haas will race his Parametric Solutions/ Hoosier Pipers in the FF and FB classes. David James will be joining RRP to race his Piper in FF. Then the team goes to New Jersey Motorsports Park on Oct 6-8 for the FRP F1600 Series finale. Also stay tuned for exciting news about RRP guest drivers in new RRP rides, at the NJMP event.
Joel Haas won his first FRP F1600 Masters race with a dominant performance in Race 3 at Pittsburgh International Race Complex. Joel should have won Race 1, but a desperation move from behind in the last corner on the last lap, left him with a broken car and engine. Our Rice Race Prep crew literally worked all night to get the Parametric Solutions Piper back on track for Race 2 where he came out on the short end of a photo finish. That set the stage for the strong Race 3 performance and the elusive 1st win. Joel takes over the Masters Championship point race heading to Summit Point for the next event.
Greg Rice comments on the weekend result, "It was a gritty performance from Joel and the team but symbolic of what this group continues to accomplish. Like several of our Steve Bamford wins, we dug deep when most would have loaded up the trailer. As with Steve, we have built a program around Joel that brings driver development, engineering, car development, solid preparation, and attention to detail, all to the standards required to win races and championships. We had some new pieces on the car this weekend, and the pieces on hand to get the car back on track. I am so proud of everyone involved."
RRP guest driver, 2015 SCCA FF Champion, Rick Payne, put in an impressive performance in our classic Reynard. Rick set the pace in initial practice but some recurring driveline problems kept him from finishing as well as he should have. Rick finished 2nd in Race 1 and ran second for several laps in Race 3. We look forward to having Rick back for a better run when we get the car running better. Our previous guest driver, Jonathan Kotyk swept the weekend with 3 overall wins, making it 4 wins in a row since driving the Reynard. Hopefully it sets Rick up for a winning streak too.
Rice Race Prep would also like to congratulate our website designer (and IT adviser) Will Salisbury who continues to rack up podiums in the Gear Up - F Series in his GGR Formula 125 machine. Way to go Will! Maybe we will see Will in cars one day.
