Strong Summit Point Event for RiceRace

Kyle August

RiceRace was in full force at the F1600 event at Summit Point on August 20-22. Guest driver, Andre Castro paced practice, with team drivers Will Holtz, Kyle August, and Jonathan Lee not far behind. At the end of the 30 min qualifying session, Jonathan Lee had pole, with all 4 in the top 8. Jonathan Lee held the point for the early stages of Race 1 as 7 cars trailed close behind. Lee and Castro tangled together, and the 3 other lead pack cars had various indiscretions, leaving Joey Brienza fighting with Holtz and August for the win, finishing in that order. It was the first podium for Kyle August in his 3 years of F1600 competition. Race 2 saw Team USA nominee Andre Castro lead some and settle for 2nd in a photo finish. Holtz was 5th, Lee 6th, and August 8th. Race 3 saw Castro lead most of the race with the pack close behind. August got pushed off halfway through, and the lead pack was down to 5 as they started the last lap. Castro got pushed off in corner 3 and shuffled back to 5th at the finish as Holtz took 3rd. August and Lee rounded out the top 7.

Will Holtz

"We are so excited to see the progress Kyle has made over the past few seasons and this podium is long overdue. Will continues to improve, and Andre is world class. We wish him well as he heads to the Team USA shootout this week. We also need to celebrate that Jonathan Lee and Thomas Schrage made the top-12 in the Team USA Scholarship selection process" reports team owner Greg Rice. The RiceRace team will stop their guest driver in the #6 program, now focusing on their SCCA Runoffs program and finalizing plans for the 2022 season. "We have some drivers lined up for our fleet of FF/F1600 cars, and our FC/F2000, so we are waiting to see what the various 2022 calendars provide. Great to see the Canadian F1600 racers back on track and the border opening up. With SCCA events, and F1600 events on both sides of the border, there are lots of events to pick from. We are also interested in other projects if racers in other classes and organizations need a good team to work with."
