Will Holtz Wins First FRP Race, Confirms Runoff Entry

Will Holtz at speed through Canada Corner at Road America

Will Holtz came to Road America for the 5th event of the FRP F1600 Championship prepared to improve on his first podium scored at PIRC at the previous event. Strong in practice and qualifying, Will scored his first win with a strong finish to Race 2 on Sunday morning, passing Bob Perona in corner 5, and Jace Denmark in Canada corner, both on the final lap. From the Chicago area, Will had a strong cheering squad in attendance, making the day very special. Also very strong in race 3, running in the front group, he got rear-ended and went for a quick spin. Rejoining the race, Will set fastest lap by a significant margin, finishing in tenth position. Will had finished a shortened Race 1 in 5th position.

It was a strong event for the RiceRace team as the blue cars ran near the front through every session. Misha Goikhberg finished 2nd in Race 3 , and Kyle August started from pole in race 3 and led later in the race. "While we don't have the dominant driver this year, our cars are always fast and usually have all 3 in the top 7 or 8 positions", reports RiceRace team owner Greg Rice. " Both Will and Kyle are improving every time out, and our guest driver car always seems to be in the middle of the action. We are pleased to confirm that Will will join us at the SCCA Runoffs in Formula F. He will join Simon Sikes, already confirmed in FC, with 2 more FF drivers to be confirmed."

The RiceRace team has one open seat for the FRP F1600 event at Summit Point on August 20-22. Aside from filling that one event, the team is working on 2022, with plans to run some potential new drivers at Road Atlanta at a SCCA event on November 5-8. Interested drivers should contact Greg Rice at RiceRacePrep@gmail.com for more info.
