2015 SCCA National Champion Rick Payne will drive the Rice Race Prep Reynard-Honda at Pittsburgh International Complex on July 28-29. Payne, from Mission, British Columbia will compete in the Masters division of the Formula Race Promotions F1600 Series. Payne previously raced in the 3rd FRP event at Indianapolis, where he drove his own Payton Pools Van Diemen to two 2nd place Masters finishes. His biggest victory, was the SCCA FF race at the 2015 Runoffs at Daytona Speedway.
Rice Race Prep has won 3 of the last 4 Masters Championships with Steve Bamford. With Bamford taking the year off, RRP driver Joel Haas chases the Masters Championship in his Parametric Solutions sponsored Piper. After 4 FRP events, Haas stands second in Masters points, only 8 behind rival Scott Rubenzer. RRP made a commitment to supporting the FRP F1600 Series with 2 entries at each event. Team Owner, Greg Rice, joined Haas at VIR and Mid-Ohio-1. Chris Smith ran with RRP at Indy and Cliff Johnson swept the Masters victories at Mid-Ohio-2. RRP also ran guest driver Jonathan Kotyk to a strong 2nd place at an SCCA Majors event in Thompson, CT. Payne will leave his car on the west coast, and be Haas teammate for PIRC. Discussions are under way for other guest drivers for the FRP events at Summit Point and NJMP. Interested drivers should contact Greg Rice. Rice Race Prep is open for new business in 2018. 2017 was a transitional year as we diversified and worked with new teams and drivers, but we would really like to get back to our specialty. We would like to add another single car program for SCCA racing in the winter season, and add another full-time FRP customer in F1600 or F2000. We have a legacy of data, video, and expertise, so that we can provide a complete and serious race effort to racers that want to go racing seriously. Although it seems like long ago, please recall that RRP did win the 2016 F2000 Masters and Overall Championships in dominant fashion.
