Simon Sikes Wins FRP F1600 Championship

Simon Sikes. The 2020 F1600 and Formula F National Champion

While 2020 will be a year for most to forget, a 19 year old race driver from Georgia, has had the best 5 months of racing that any racer could dream of. During that time, Simon Sikes started 20 F1600 or Formula F races against the best drivers in those classes in the USA, scoring 11 wins and 7 runnerup finishes. That included 9 wins in 17 FRP F1600 starts, and wins in both the June Sprints and Runoffs, SCCA's most prestigious events. Driving for the RiceRace team, in his Group 6 Mygale, Simon claimed the FRP F1600 championship and the SCCA National Formula F championship. Also driving a RiceRace entry, Simon finished 2nd in the SCCA National Formula C after winning a Hoosier Super Tour event. Also within this 5 month window, Simon started preparing for 2021 by doing three USF2000 races with Marotti Autosport, with a best result of 4th at Mid-Ohio. Unfortunately, all this racing action prevented Simon participating in the UK FF festivals, but he was also named as a winner in the Team USA Scholarship program.

Simon had one win and two 2nds at the FRP Finale at Road Atlanta on October 31st to finish the season. He was joined on the podium by new teammate Trey Burke who finished 3rd in Race 2, and had his first F1600 victory in the final race. Rice Race team owner, Greg Rice reports, "Simon actually has another 5 wins in 6 starts if you go back to to 2019. He has been a team leader and mentor for our other drivers, forcing them to up their performance. Trey Burke won his first race, and Jackson Lee scored a pair of victories in a run of 7 straight podium finishes. Kyle August and Jason Pribyl made real progress as well. It was the best team effort that I have ever been part of, and Simon was the leader. We wish Simon all the best as he continues his journey up the motorsports ladder. He should be on the radar of ever Pro team, whether RTI, sports racers, or sports cars."

The RiceRace team has now begun their 2021 operations. Discussions are underway to fill the F1600 seats as two full season rides are available. The RiceRace Citation FC car is also available for a SCCA program concluding with the Runoffs at Indy.
